The Leading Edge of Building Automation with IP-Based Controllers

Monday, May 9th, 2022

Speed. Processing power. Security. All of which are part of the future of IP-based building automation controllers. When it comes to the optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS), many believe this is where the future is headed.

MODERNIZE + OPTIMIZE

To meet the needs of customers in the automated building universe, implementing IP-based solutions is the most logical path. While IP-based building systems haven’t always been widely spread, the recent IP adoption has greatly increased, providing the potential to make them run at the highest level of reliability—while remaining cost-effective. Extremely resilient, these IP-based networks provide unmatched operations, guaranteeing that business runs as usual. As for security, these solutions are encrypted, protecting the operations of the building.

Using these secure IP-based configurations, the time and money that goes into managing a BAS system is significantly decreased.

The IP based product—both wired and unwired—provide a standard for integrating down to the device level, while allowing typical and advanced configurations that other media and systems can’t do without additional hardware, software, and time.

Egan Company Building Automation Group Manager, Kirk Wahlstrom

REAL-TIME PRODUCTIVITY

Solving problems regarding building performance needs to happen in real-time. Working on an IP-based network allows for much more bandwidth, allowing building owners, property managers, and engineers access to the data analytics they need, as fast as they need it. Egan Company Building Automation Account Manager, Michael Miller states, “IP is a faster, more secure smart building solution. It will be the technology all Building Automation Systems will migrate to in the future.”

IP-BASED CUSTOMER CASE STUDY

One of Egan’s most recent modernization projects involves the Centennial Lakes Office Park in Edina, Minn. With consideration of the most relevant and impactful migration, Egan was able to provide a full IP-based network to move away from aging networks and controllers and invest in a sustainable and serviceable future. Seamless installation allowed for the new systems to be easily integrated within multiple buildings. Installing the network backbone has provided a migration path that allows the customer to dictate the timing and areas of greatest concern.

While implementing IP technology is still the newcomer on the Building Automation block, the future of simplifying, upgrading, and modernizing is here and it’s IP-based.

Why Your Business Needs EV Charging Stations

Thursday, March 31st, 2022

In the coming years, electric vehicles will make up more than 25% of vehicles on the road. At first glance, this might seem like a small percentage, but in reality it accounts for several million vehicles. While the adoption of electric vehicles grows, now is the time to get into the electric vehicle charging station game.

THE MANY BENEFITS OF EV CHARGING STATIONS

Business owners and property managers alike can reap the benefits when it comes to installing EV chargers. As the sheer number of electric vehicles on the road increases, a business opportunity arises allowing you to fulfill the needs of tenants and customers while drawing them into your business. While the benefits are nearly endless, a few include:

  1. Keep employees supported by meeting their EV charging needs.
  2. Attract customers who stay longer and spend more time at your business. EV drivers are always looking for somewhere to charge, thus, customers who may have never found your business, are much more likely to stumble upon it when looking for an EV charging station.
  3. Embrace sustainability. People seek environmentally friendly options – by implementing EV charging stations, you are showcasing your commitment to sustainability and renewables.
  4. Hassle-free revenue from EV drivers – consider the fees from charging as another source of income.
  5. Ability to tap into government and other incentives provided toward installing EV chargers.
  6. Increase your overall property value.

Why Consider Egan’s Refrigeration-IQ™ Controls?

Friday, January 28th, 2022

It’s time to streamline your industrial refrigeration process – where should you turn? Egan Company is your resource in designing, installing, and maintaining your next ammonia controls project.

WHAT IS REFRIGERATION-IQ™?

Most are familiar with ammonia, the naturally occurring gas combination of nitrogen and hydrogen. Similar to other natural refrigerants (for example: water), ammonia is readily available and harmless to the environment, providing a major advantage in the industrial refrigeration arena.

The refrigeration process itself looks the same here, simply using ammonia as the refrigerant. Thus, ammonia refrigeration presents an industrial grade option to cool large-scale systems within a variety of facilities,  such as food and beverage processing, cold storage warehouses, or industrial operation.

WHY CHOOSE REFRIGERATION-IQ™?

Choosing custom refrigeration controls for your industrial application is not only cost-effective, it’s energy efficient and environmentally conscious (with a global warming and ozone depletion potential of zero).

If your facility utilizes an industrial refrigeration system, upgrading to one of Egan Company’s Refrigeration-IQ™ control systems will increase your efficiency while decreasing the energy costs associated with commercial refrigeration. Our certified engineers will customize your system to fulfill your specific needs.

SYSTEM FEATURES OF REFRIGERATION-IQ™ SYSTEMS DESIGNED BY EGAN:

  • Custom control panels fabricated in Egan’s UL 508A Panel Shop
  • A non-proprietary software solution featuring Rockwell hardware and software platforms
  • Control optimization that provides energy and water consumption savings
  • Load sharing

Experience Hands-on Building Systems Training in Technology Center

Tuesday, August 31st, 2021

What pairs best with an efficient technology system? A team that knows how to utilize it – which is why Egan Company is not only an installer, integrator, and service provider, but also our customers’ system educator!

At Egan, we know that our role doesn’t end after installation, but rather it transitions to provide assistance and direction for operating building’s systems. To provide the best training, we open up our Technology Center (where we train our own union trades staff) to offer customers and other groups the chance to learn how to utilize their systems in a controlled setting. By tailoring training curriculum to meet the needs of each groups’ systems, customers leave knowing the ins and outs of their specific applications.

Within Egan’s Technology Center, many building systems and solutions are on display, including:

  • Fire Alarm System (Notifier)
  • Access Control
  • Intrusion Alarm
  • Video Surveillance
  • Building Automation

The benefits of learning your own system in a real test environment are exponential. With many of these systems, testing and learning a system within a facility is risky and requires off-time. Take building access control systems for example, by learning the system at Egan, facility managers and engineers don’t have to worry about compromising the system or changing the access of everyone within the facility. One step further, if teams are trying to train on the fire detection system at their facility, they run the risk of accidentally evacuating the building when it’s not necessary. By training in our Technology Center, customers can pull the fire alarm without running any risks.

What kind of groups need systems training? The answer is simple: anyone and everyone with a building technology system! From maintenance crews and city fire departments to engineers and architects – Egan Company provides interested customers with systems training that adds value. By choosing Egan, building teams are not only setting up systems, but also themselves for success with in-depth, essential training from the experts.

Request a tour or set up a training session by contacting Vice President of Automation, Technology, and Service, Mark Broadwater.
