There’s a Reason Toy Rhymes with Joy

Saturday, December 17th, 2016

Egan employees helped spread holiday cheer during this year’s Egan Company Toy Drive! Employees set the goal of donating 1,000 toys to children in need in the communities we work and live in, and dropped off toys during the Egan Company Christmas Party on December 15.

Two representatives from the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation attended our event and accepted donations. On December 16, Egan representatives had the opportunity to share our impact on KARE 11, announcing that we had donated a grand total of 1,200 toys, ensuring many children in our community will receive presents this Christmas. Watch the clip here!

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation’s goal is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. Thanks to Toys for Tots for providing for those in need.

LENEL CHOOSES EGAN AS NEW PARTNER

Wednesday, December 14th, 2016

As the popularity of smart building technology increases, Egan Company continually strives to provide customers new and innovative ways to implement this technology in their facilities. Due to this commitment to innovation, Egan was chosen as a Lenel OnGuard value-added reseller.

The OnGuard line of products is a natural fit for Egan and its technology team because of its strong integration capabilities, allowing customers to effectively manage their property and assets. This complete integration allows card access, video, Stentofon intercoms, and building automation and lighting controls to be connected all through BacNET integration standard protocols – meaning that many different systems can seamlessly communicate and interact with one another. This further strengthens Egan’s ability to deliver complete smart building packages to building owners and general contractors.

If you’re interested in learning more about integrating building technology and how Egan can help with the Lenel OnGuard suite of products, please contact SystemsPartner@eganco.com.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

Monday, October 17th, 2016

A recent article in Glass Magazine, highlighted the lack of women in construction and how some companies in the glass industry have made efforts to solve a worker shortage by recruiting more women to join the industry.

Tim Woolworth, Egan Company Senior Vice President, was interviewed for the story, providing insight into how Egan’s InterClad team deals with potential worker shortages.

[Hiring women] would help offset the labor shortage and we have experienced this on recent projects,” says Woolworth. “Some of these recent past projects have field labor utilization goals requiring a certain percentage of the field crew be … female. These goals have raised awareness for the unions and ourselves that have helped put a focus on new female recruits.

Expanding Mechanical Trades Shops

Friday, May 27th, 2016

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (May 27, 2016) – Specialty trades contractor Egan Company completed the expansion of its 50,000 square foot mechanical trades shop within its Brooklyn Park, Minn. facility. The expansion adds 7,420 square feet to the existing space, as well as upgraded and new equipment – increasing productivity while creating a safer environment for employees.

Over 70 years ago, Egan Company began as a plumbing and heating contractor. The sheet metal trade was added in 1958. Since this era, Egan has invested in its fabrication shops to provide fast delivery of custom-built mechanical systems to its customers.

“We’ve expanded our shops with the purpose of integrating all shops into one . . . we opened walls to promote the sharing of resources and foster collaboration across all trades,” said Mark Habermann, Egan Company Manufacturing Manager.

Rearranging and integrating Egan’s piping, plumbing, sheet metal, and millwright shops has streamlined the operations that enable Egan to offer just-in-time delivery to job sites. Coupled with Virtual Construction technology, Egan provides materials under any timeline while working in a controlled, union-operated environment. Likewise, having union trades personnel working indoors in a shop environment reduces many potential safety hazards.

“Any task we can perform in our facility, under controlled conditions rather than on the jobsite, is a win for our employees and our customers,” Habermann said.

The shop – used to manufacture and store custom piping, plumbing, and sheet metal components – has more space for racking and inventory and now houses new equipment such as an Axxair stainless pipe cutting machine and a Jimmy Jammer semi-automatic welding system.

Trades served by the expanded shop space include sheet metal, piping, plumbing, and millwrights.
