Local Impact Through Water’s Off

Monday, March 28th, 2022

In Minnesota, March 26th marked the 28th annual “Water’s Off” event where local union plumbers donated their time to provide proper plumbing maintenance and repair to those in need while raising awareness of water conservation. In 1994, the local unions were looking for ways to spread awareness of the importance of preserving water. They quickly found that often those who had the highest water bills were those who couldn’t afford their bills, nor the necessary maintenance and repair of the residential plumbing systems. To fill this need, “Water’s Off” was formed, partnering with trades personnel and contractors to access necessary resources. Now, one Saturday every spring, local union plumbers donate their time to help those in need.

Dave Lillback, one of Egan Company’s Plumbers was able to donate his time and use his Egan truck to participate in the event alongside many other union plumbers. Lillback has been involved in the event since 2005. “It’s a really cool opportunity to give back to the community while breaking the stigma of the union trades.” says Lilliback. “We’re able to help people who really are deserving.”

According to the Minnesota Pipe Trades website, on average 130 volunteers participate. While the event started locally in Minnesota, it has since spread to other locations as well. In the fall, local pipefitters volunteer in a similar event called “Heat’s On” that provides those in need with furnace repairs.

Discover Egan: Delivering Fabrication

Monday, March 21st, 2022

Fabrication: the name of the game when it comes to meeting deadlines and budgets and improving control over the supply chain. Egan Company’s state-of-the-art shops staffed by skilled tradespeople fabricate piping, plumbing, electrical components, panels, curtainwall, and metal panels.

Prefabrication projects are completed within our local shops with access to the necessary resources on demand. Our investment in continually improving the process is evident through preconstruction planning and feeding virtual construction plans directly into the fabrication equipment – both of which improve quality and save our customers time and money.

Fabrication capabilities include:

Plumbing and piping – A variety of deliverable products depart from our mechanical shop. When it comes to plumbing and piping systems, this includes everything from tube and pipe to hangers/supports. Modular custom-built systems are also at play in this fabrication shop to meet customers needs.

UL 508A panels – Our panel team creates custom control panels, designed and built in house. With precision assembly we configure panels of all shapes and sizes in our 12,000 square-foot panel shop. Shop features include: Steinhauer ModCenter (automated hole/cutout machine for enclosures), custom label manufacturing, OEM manufacturing, 6S methodology.

Electrical – Our design and virtual electrical teams map out projects virtually before they move on to be built in our shop and installed on site.

Curtainwall and metal panels – The InterClad team is able to fast track their curtainwall and panel projects with in-house drafting and engineering, matched with fast fabrication and assembly in their shop. The new addition of a CNC machine furthers the efficiency of this shop.

Working with Egan allows fabrication with no bounds – our capabilities will streamline your project to completion. The benefits of prefabricating your project are endless:

  • Work is simplified and standardized
  • Easier trade coordination with reduced task durations
  • Increased quality of product
  • Reduced crew on the jobsite
  • Reduced deliveries and storage required on-site
  • Reduced wasted materials
  • Lower overall cost
  • Increased safety in controlled environment

Honoring Women in Construction Week

Friday, March 11th, 2022

Over the past week, we were able to celebrate and recognize the many women who make up the construction industry! This year’s theme was “Envision Equity,” inspiring us to share appreciation, celebrate diversity, and form connections with others in the industry.

Women in Construction Industry Showcase at Brookview Golf Course

As a corporate sponsor for the 2022 Women in Construction Week, Egan was able to share our appreciation for the women who make up the industry. Throughout the week, National Association of Women in Construction Minneapolis/St. Paul (NAWIC-MN) facilitated a series of events. Alongside many other women in the industry, Egan representatives were able to attend several events including a panel on ‘The Power of Social Media,’ an Industry Showcase, a virtual event on ‘Recognizing Women of Color in Construction & the Built Environment,’ and more!

Thanks to all who participated in honoring the women who make up our workforce and for paving the way for generations of women to come! A few employees shared their perspective and experience about working in the industry:

  • Industrial Controls Project Manager, Shannon Kangas: “The challenge and the variety are my favorite part of working in the construction industry – no two days are the same.”
  • Electrician, Nicole O’Connor: “As a female in the trades, I enjoy working together with everyone in the field where we can all be ourselves. I feel encouraged to work toward my strengths and try to be a positive influence to those around me.”
  • InterClad Estimator/Sales, Jill Lancaster: “Each project is unique and while two projects may appear similar from the outside looking in, there are always special circumstances – from the building type, system type, contractor/customer requests, personalities of those involved, etc, so every day has new opportunities and challenges.”

Why Consider Egan’s Refrigeration-IQ™ Controls?

Friday, January 28th, 2022

It’s time to streamline your industrial refrigeration process – where should you turn? Egan Company is your resource in designing, installing, and maintaining your next ammonia controls project.

WHAT IS REFRIGERATION-IQ™?

Most are familiar with ammonia, the naturally occurring gas combination of nitrogen and hydrogen. Similar to other natural refrigerants (for example: water), ammonia is readily available and harmless to the environment, providing a major advantage in the industrial refrigeration arena.

The refrigeration process itself looks the same here, simply using ammonia as the refrigerant. Thus, ammonia refrigeration presents an industrial grade option to cool large-scale systems within a variety of facilities,  such as food and beverage processing, cold storage warehouses, or industrial operation.

WHY CHOOSE REFRIGERATION-IQ™?

Choosing custom refrigeration controls for your industrial application is not only cost-effective, it’s energy efficient and environmentally conscious (with a global warming and ozone depletion potential of zero).

If your facility utilizes an industrial refrigeration system, upgrading to one of Egan Company’s Refrigeration-IQ™ control systems will increase your efficiency while decreasing the energy costs associated with commercial refrigeration. Our certified engineers will customize your system to fulfill your specific needs.

SYSTEM FEATURES OF REFRIGERATION-IQ™ SYSTEMS DESIGNED BY EGAN:

  • Custom control panels fabricated in Egan’s UL 508A Panel Shop
  • A non-proprietary software solution featuring Rockwell hardware and software platforms
  • Control optimization that provides energy and water consumption savings
  • Load sharing
  • Intuitive compressor, condenser, and evaporative defrost sequencing matrices
  • Winter/summer and daytime/nighttime sequence settings

Finalizing the Iconic Gateway Project

Monday, January 24th, 2022

9,873 pieces of glass. 5,491 unitized frames. 300 full semi trucks delivering the unitized frames to the jobsite. A landmark location and historic project for Egan’s InterClad team. Egan’s largest completed project to date: the Gateway tower.

This new construction skyrocketed through the Minneapolis skyline topping off at 37-stories on the iconic corner of Washington and Hennepin. The mixed-use tower will provide retail, office, and hotel/residence space, with tenants including RBC Wealth Management, the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Minneapolis, Pohlad Companies, Carousel Motor Group, and United Properties.

Right before the holidays, the InterClad crew was able to have a celebratory signing of the last frame that was set on the building. A ceremonial Christmas tree can be seen affixed to the top of the frame before it was raised up as part of the Ironworker, Glazier, and Glassworker tradition when completing a project.

It [the topping off ceremony] was an exciting moment for the crew and myself to see how far the project has come,” said Egan Senior Project Manager Deb Linquist. “I want to personally thank everyone involved in the project since this couldn’t have been done without them!

‘Tis the Season for Charitable Giving

Friday, December 31st, 2021

As another fulfilling year comes to a close, one of the things in which we are most proud is the impact we were able to have on the local community around us. In December 2021, Egan Company shareholders selected local nonprofits to receive a charitable donation, many of which were hand-delivered around the holidays.

The result was financially supporting nine causes that aligned with Egan’s purpose, goals, and/or values:

2021 “Best of Promises Kept” Awards

Monday, December 20th, 2021

Each year, we take customer care to new levels. An important part of our workplace culture at Egan Company includes recognizing those who exemplify this care in our annual “Best Of Promises Kept” awards.

Throughout the year, we receive narratives of “Promises Kept” that amplify stories of Egan employees providing exceptional customer service. At the end of the year, a few of these stories are chosen for the “Best Of” award, recognizing those that have gone above and beyond. Traditionally, these have been announced at an Employee Christmas Party;  this year, the awards were presented individually by Egan Company CEO Duane Hendricks and President James Ford. Honored employees were able to gather in a small group to celebrate.

Congratulations to the Individual and Team Promises Kept Award winners! See below to read the recognized stories:

Greg Dupont did a great job in the W5 UPS meeting. Not only was he prepared, but his ability to work around other’s schedules was superb. Greg made the facilities team look good. Thank you to Greg for being such a great partner – this is exactly why we appreciate YOU leading projects at JFB! Great job and thank you for your hard work!

– M. Frana, Maintenance & Operations Lead, General Mills

Dylan McDonah was a tremendous help during the Gustavus Nobel Hall project. He was always looking ahead, and not only for himself but for others as well. Dylan was always ahead of the curve. I went to him many times only to find out he already was taking care of it. He was very conscientious to make sure if he was not going to be there that I always had someone to go to. I think Egan is very lucky to have such a talented foreman. I just wanted to thank the Egan team and say that I look forward to working with Egan again – it was a pleasure!

-E. Miller, Superintendent, Kraus-Anderson

The Engineering Management Team for the 20 Washington Ave South project would like to thank the Egan team (Mike Kellner, Gibson Kellner, Jeromy Magill, and Andy Whalen) for the outstanding job they did with the installation of the new Notifier fire system. The building is a 7-story, single tenant building where the tenant was the prior longtime owner of the facility. Being prior owners, the tenant representative is very knowledgeable and protective of the building. We had several meetings and interactions with the tenant’s representative and Mike did a fantastic job describing his approach to transitioning to the new fire system. He provided timelines and addressed all the tenant representative’s questions and concerns. We feel the crew’s knowledge of fire systems and Mike’s presentation skills gave the tenant’s representative a sense of confidence that the project would go smoothly, which it did. Mike and the crew’s unending energy, attention to detail, and passion for the work, delivered a fire system that is well designed, easy to use, and simple to test. Kudos to the Egan crew for a job well done!

– T. Strum, Chief Engineer, Able Engineering Services
