- The John Deere manufacturing facility in Waterloo, Iowa builds thousands of machines each year. Within the facility is a foundry where all the castings are made for various types of machines like combines, planters, and tractors.
- Egan's mechanical team was tasked with installing a shakeout system within the foundry. The team built a new system that separates the cast from the mold on a table-like platform and conveys the sand away for reuse on other molds.
- As a part of this installation, the team also installed multiple conveyors, a drum screen, bucket elevator, and a large magnet.
- Another aspect of this project scope included the design and installation of a new dust collection system to bring the foundry up to the OSHA Silica Standard.
- Egan's shops fabricated all the duct work needed for the dust collection system. The upgraded system required a tie-in to an existing 54” duct system. Egan also ran 44” duct and branched it down to as small as 5” within the facility.
